Bring the rhythm of tradition home with our hand-painted tribal musician’s decorative set of 3! It consists of three separate decorative figures presented upon a tribal design. Each figure depicts a tribal musician playing a different traditional instrument. The left man depicts a sitting tribal figure playing a dholak (a sort of drum). The figure is made of wrought iron and painted in brilliant colors, including orange, black, yellow, and silver. The center man plays a large handheld Dafli while seated in a dynamic position, displaying a vivid musical motion. The metallic textures and precise artistry focus on craftsmanship. The right man is sitting and holding a circle drum in front of him. Headgear and posture are identical to the other two, providing visual continuity to the set.
Material: Wrought Iron
Color: Multicolor
Art: Tribal Bastar art
The wrought iron craft of Bastar, which is mainly done by the Lohar (blacksmith) tribe, has been passed down through generations and is done entirely by hand, with no machines. Wrought iron has been utilized for almost 2,000 years in ancient civilizations such as India, where structures like the Iron Pillar of Delhi demonstrate early creativity. Artists use basic tools to hammer iron into shape after melting it on a local burner. They produce amazing sculptures of tribal men and women, animals, trees, and gods based on their daily lives and the environments around them. The sculptures are made of genuine wrought iron, which is known for its durability and tough appearance. The craft is a part of Bastar’s tradition and legacy and is much sought after in Kondagaon and Jagdalpur.
