Material: Brass
Color: Warm metallic bronze
Art: Dokra
Dokra art is a metalwork process employed for nearly 4,000 years since the Indus Valley Civilization. The technique has a fine design and a rough, tribal appearance. Dokra Damar tribes in West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand employ this old method, which is closely linked with nature and the natural way of life of these regions. The artists frequently explore the nearby forests in order to acquire natural materials for the casting process, including clay, beeswax, and charcoal. The lost wax technique involves the formation of a framework from clay, which is then used for carving out designs using wax. Next, they cover the clay with additional clay to create a mold. After the wax has been burned off with wood, melted brass is poured into the vacant mold. The clay has been cracked open to disclose the finished object after cooling. It is an extraordinary image of their artistic talent, culture, and environment.
